How Long Do Tape Hair Extensions Last?

Tape-in hair extensions are semi-permanent extensions to add hair length and volume. They are attached to the hair using adhesive tape. The lifespan of tape-in hair extensions can vary depending on several factors.

Here are a few factors effecting the lifespan of hair extensions.

Quality of the Extensions

The quality of the hair extensions plays a significant role in determining their longevity. Higher-quality extensions made from real human hair tend to last longer.

Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance can greatly extend the lifespan of tape-in hair extensions. It is essential to follow the recommended guidelines provided by the manufacturer or stylist regarding washing, styling, and brushing the extensions.

Natural Hair Growth

As tape-in hair extensions are attached close to the roots of natural hair, they move further away from the scalp as the hair grows. This can cause tension on the adhesive tapes and make them more prone to slipping or becoming visible. Regular maintenance appointments are necessary to reposition or replace any loose or grown-out extensions.

Styling Products and Heat

Excessive use of styling products or heat tools can weaken the adhesive bond of tape-in extensions, leading to premature damage or slippage. It is advisable to use heat protectant products and minimize heat styling whenever possible.

Lifestyle and Activities

Certain activities such as swimming in chlorinated water or exposure to excessive sweat can affect the longevity of tape-in hair extensions. Taking precautions like wearing a swim cap or tying the hair up during intense physica.

On average, tape-in hair extensions last between 6 to 8 weeks before they need to be removed and reinstalled. However, with proper care and maintenance, the hair extensions can last up to 10-12 weeks.  It’s important to note that this is a general estimate, and individual results may vary.
