Washing tape-in hair extensions requires balancing “thorough cleaning” and “protecting the adhesive’s stickiness”. Avoid hair extensions falling off or hair strands getting damaged due to improper operation. You need to follow the four-step process of “Pre-treatment – Gentle Cleaning – Targeted Care – Proper Drying”; the specific methods are as follows:
- Comb gently from the ends of the hair to the roots using a wide-tooth comb (with a tooth spacing of ≥ 1cm). Focus on combing the junction where the hair extensions meet your natural hair (around the adhesive area), and avoid tangling and pulling the adhesive surface during washing. Do not comb the glued area directly with a fine-tooth comb. Prevent the adhesive layer from being snagged or the hair extensions from shifting.

- Excessively high water temperature will accelerate the softening and falling off of the double-sided tape. You need to test the water temperature with your hand (it is advisable that it is close to body temperature and not hot enough to irritate the scalp). Avoid directly hitting the glued area with a high-pressure showerhead.Apply the diluted shampoo foam to your natural scalp and the area 1-2cm from your hair roots. Massage gently in circular motions with your finger pads to remove oil and dirt from the scalp. Allow the water flow to naturally run through the hair extensions while rinsing, and avoid deliberately rubbing the adhesive surface. Keep the washing duration within 5 to 8 minutes. Do not soak your head in water for a long time, as prolonged exposure of the adhesive surface to water will reduce its stickiness.

- After washing, apply conditioner or hair mask to the 10-15cm section at the ends of the hair extensions. Under no circumstances should it come into contact with the glued area or scalp— the oils in the conditioner will dissolve the double-sided tape, causing the hair extensions to fall off. After leaving it on for 1-2 minutes, rinse it thoroughly with warm water (to avoid residue).

- Wrap your hair with a clean towel and gently press to absorb moisture. Do not rub the hair or the glued area vigorously, as this may cause the adhesive surface to shift and the hair strands to become frizzy.
Proper drying
By following the above methods, you can not only ensure clean hair but also protect the stickiness of the double-sided tape to the greatest extent. This can usually extend the lifespan of hair extensions to 4-6 weeks (the specific duration depends on the quality of the tape and maintenance practices).
